Our rustic themed conference hall and the Chapel in the main building is available from Tuesdays to Fridays for groups of 15 to 90 delegates. Times can be flexible to accommodate clients needs.

It is equipped with standard conferencing equipment and is fully-air-conditioned.  Ample parking in a safe area is available. As a team we are experienced in planning and co-ordinating functions and offer a reliable service. 

Equipment: Dimmer lighting, Flip chart and Marker Pens, Screen. Any additional equipment eg data projector can be hired on request. 

Seating Options: Theatre Style, Classroom, Banquet, U-shape, Boardroom and more

Our day conference package include:
  • Venue Hire & Standard Equipment
  • Arrival Coffee/Tea and a light breakfast eg. Muffin with cheese and preserves

Thank you for considering de Malle Meul for your wedding. Every occasion and client is special to us and therefore we would like to assure you of our committed service. We truly want to make your wedding day heaven on earth. De Malle Meul Wedding Venue forms the heart of rural Philadelphia.

This village is situated at the foot of the Koeberg Hill in the cradle of the Swartland, conveniently within 40 minutes drive from Cape Town and as little as 20 minutes from Blaauwberg and Durbanville. All year round the village is either surrounded by lush green cornfields, yellow fields of canola or earthy coloured rolling hills: straight out of a Pieter van der Westhuizen work of art.
 
Venue and Size
 
De Malle Meul is a beautiful old renovated mill dating from the 1920’s with unique metal-clad walls, it guards the entrance to Philadelphia. To anyone loving wood craftsmanship and old buildings as well as superb artwork, this is a must see.

The grounds and buildings include the following:
  • a courtyard with umbrellas overlooking Philadelphia’s Church square,
  • the Van der Westhuizen Gallery with an art deco leather lounge suite, which can serve as a reception area,
  • the Old Mill Chapel, (An open beamed loft with the remaining renovated shoots of the old flour mill with a separate entrance.),
  • the Koringsaal is an atmospheric hall with woodwork,
  • the Bartholomeusen Bar and Dance area has a parquet floor with french doors opening onto the exclusive vineyard of de Malle Meul,
  • the buffet area adjoining the open-plan kitchen,
  • a parking area for guests and
  • two self-catering cottages.

The venue can accommodate 80 guests for a dinner dance or 110 guests banqueting style.

 
Venue Hire
 
The venue fee of de Malle Meul is lower out of season than in season.

The Venue fee includes:
  • the courtyard or the Van der Westhuizen gallery as reception area,
  • the Old Mill Chapel,
  • the Koringsaal,
  • the Bartholomeusen bar and dance area,
  • the buffet area and
  • the very special amphi-area with the vineyard and roses as a back-drop for taking photographs.
  • Overnight accommodation for the bridal couple in the self-catering unit, “Die Koringhuisie”, for two next to the de Malle Meul. with a complimentary basket.

    This unit is available from 11:00 on the day of the wedding. A plate of sandwiches for the bride and her bridesmaids can be organized in advance.

    If another unit is needed for the bridal party to get ready, the “Blikhuisie” or the “Wingerdhuisie” can be reserved at an additional cost of R 1 000.00 for the day/

The venue fee also includes the following:

  • umbrellas in the courtyard,
  • crockery and cutlery (including fish, starter, main, desert, soup and cake),
  • glassware (including red wine, white wine, champagne, beer, water and sherry),
  • white linen serviettes and table clothes,
  • chair covers in chapel,
  • baskets/ tin buckets for rose petals,
  • seating arrangements and setting of tables,
  • a stand for guest list and seating plan,
  • wooden chairs and rectangular tables,
  • a cake knife for cutting of wedding cake and
  • clearing and cleaning service after the function
Two complimentary planning consultations which include a meeting with the different service providers.
 
Co-ordinating
 
Planning your perfect day should be stress free! Allow us to guide you through the process in helping you to co-ordinate and choose suppliers. We have a preferred list of professional service providers, whom we can recommend without hesitation. We have chosen them to suit different budgets and needs.

We will obtain the necessary quotes and finalise all arrangements with them after liaising with the bridal couple. From table settings and flower arrangements to cake specialists and photographers, we’ll make sure you have everything you need to make your day heaven on earth.

Our service providers are equipped to help with the following:

  • Stationary
  • Caterer
  • Bar requirements and selection of wine and other beverages
  • Wedding Cake
  • Special décor, flowers, vases and candles or any other equipment requested
  • Make-up artist and hair stylists
  • Photographers and Videographer
  • Transport if needed e.g. wedding car
  • Deejay, Live music, PA system and Microphone
  • Overlays and other linens
  • Accommodation
 
Function times
 
The venue is available from 08:00 until 13:00 for breakfast and brunch functions, 12:00 till 16:00 for lunch, 18:00 till 21:00 for a cocktail party or until midnight for a dinner. Ample time will be available for the set-up of your big day!  For evening wedding ceremonies, the guests may start arriving from 16:00, the bar closes at 00:00 and we ask that the musicians or DJ continue no later than 00:00, due to very strict local noise regulations.

De Malle Meul therefore reserves the right to regulate the volume of music at any function held on its premises. The venue closes at 00:30. Exceeding of closing hours, will result in a R1 500.00 per hour fee after midnight.
 
Accommodation
 
We can arrange accommodation in the hamlet of Philadelphia. “Die Blikhuisie” and the self-catering cottages “Die Wingerdhuisie” and “Die Koringhuisie” at de Malle Meul can be used for this purpose.
 
Setting up and clearing of Venue
 
We can start set-up on the day before the wedding if practically possible and subject to other functions hosted at the premises. We will coordinate with all suppliers regarding their special needs and requirements.
 
Booking and Payment
  
Should you decide to book with us, your provisional booking will be reserved for 14 days. If no deposit is received within this period, the booking will unfortunately be cancelled and the venue will be made available to other clients.
 
Number of Guests
 
In order for us to co-ordinate and cater for your function with efficiency, we would require the number of guests and other information e.g. bar arrangements at least 10 working days prior to the function. Confirmed numbers may not be less than 90% of quoted numbers. We shall charge according to your confirmed or actual number of guests whichever is the greater.
 
Menu Selection
 
The Malle Meul is proud to be associated with Wilinda Hanekom Caterers. She and her team have been in the business for 18 years and come with excellent references. Therefore no other caterers will be permitted. You can choose mains and deserts from a wide selection of possibilities to create your own unique combination. A variety of starter and/or snack ideas are also available, as well as welcome-drinks, at an additional cost.

Children under the age of 10 will be charged half price.
Please inform us of any dietary requirement 14 days prior to the function, in writing.

A coffee station is available at R9.00 per person.
 
Bar
 
Being a fully licensed establishment, we have the facilities available to offer a cash or account bar. The service of a barman is R300,00 per function. De Malle Meul’s wine list consists of wines from the area. If however, you would like to bring your own table wine and sparkling wine, a corkage fee of R25 per bottle will be charged.  Please note, that all other bar stock (juice, sherry, port, beer and soft drinks etc.) is supplied by de Malle Meul at competitive prices. De Malle Meul specifies that alcohol may be served until midnight only. We therefore kindly request the host to call the last round at 23:30. No alcohol will be served to persons under the age of 18.
 
Other Terms and Conditions
 
Items to be collected: A list of all items that are to be collected the day following the function must be provided at least one day in advance so that the necessary arrangements for the return thereof can be made.

Smoking: de Malle Meul is a non-smoking area. Ashtrays will be provided outside.
Confetti: No confetti or feathers are allowed.
Weather: Unfortunately we take no responsibility for outdoor functions and the client remains responsible for any extra costs involved in a radical change of weather that may affect the arrangements for the function.

The owners, managers and staff members do not take any responsibility for any of the guests or host’s belongings (including gifts) or any injury, damage or loss suffered by any person. The host accordingly indemnifies the venue and owners against any claim arising out of the loss or damage to any such belongings and the host waives any claim it may have.
